Wig Care & Maintenance Guide
Whether you’ve chosen a natural human hair wig or a high-quality synthetic piece, proper care ensures your wig stays flawless, soft, and long-lasting. Follow our simple guide to install, style, and maintain your wig like a pro.
How to Install Your Wig
Before You Start:
- Make sure your natural hair is clean, dry, and flat (braid, wrap, or use a wig cap).
- Clean your forehead and hairline to remove oils or makeup.
- Gather your tools: wig cap, adhesive or wig grip band, scissors, edge brush, and styling tools.
For Lace Wigs:
- Prep: Trim the lace carefully along the hairline.
- Apply: Use a small amount of adhesive, gel, or wig spray along your hairline (optional for glueless wigs).
- Secure: Position the wig from front to back, pressing gently into place.
- Style: Blend your edges and style as desired using low heat or gentle brushing.
For Glueless or Ready-to-Wear Wigs:
- Simply place the wig on your head, adjust straps for a snug fit, and style to your liking.
Daily Care Tips
- Always handle your wig gently, avoid pulling or rough combing.
- Use a wide-tooth comb or wig brush starting from the ends and working upward.
- Keep the wig away from excessive heat or direct sunlight when not in use.
- Store it on a wig stand or mannequin head to maintain its shape.
Washing & Conditioning
For Human Hair Wigs:
- Detangle first using a wide-tooth comb.
- Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water and add a small amount of sulfate-free shampoo.
- Gently submerge the wig and swish it (do not rub or twist).
- Rinse with cool water.
- Apply a moisturizing conditioner, let it sit for 5–10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Pat dry with a towel — never wring — and let it air dry on a wig stand.
- nce dry, apply a light leave-in conditioner or argan oil to keep it soft and shiny.
For Synthetic Wigs:
- Detangle gently with a wig brush.
- Use cold water with synthetic wig shampoo (avoid regular shampoo).
- Soak for 5–10 minutes, do not rub.
- Rinse thoroughly with cold water.
- Apply synthetic wig conditioner if needed.
- Gently pat dry with a towel and let it air dry, avoid blow dryers or heat.
Styling Tips
Human Hair Wigs:
- Can be straightened, curled, or restyled with low to medium heat.
- Always use a heat protectant spray.
- Avoid over-styling to maintain texture and longevity.
Synthetic Wigs:
- Use only heat-friendly tools if the fiber allows (check your product label).
- Avoid high temperatures; even warm air can alter the shape.
- Finger styling often works best for natural-looking results.
Long-Term Maintenance
Wash your wig or when product buildup occurs
Store in a cool, dry place away from dust and moisture.
For lace wigs, clean the lace gently after each use to prevent glue buildup.
If shedding or tangling occurs, use a lightweight detangling spray or seek professional wig care.
